I really can’t describe the feelings I had watching this movie. I got it from Netflix.
I never understood what it must feel like for a spouse to have to admit a loved one to a senior care facility. I will …….well, let me just say, this movie was life-changing for me. It was poignant and a truly beautiful story of devoted married love. Tasteful and tender…..held my attention for the whole two hour viewing time.
Last week, I saw a handsome man about age 75 sitting with an older lady. I thought it was his mother. She looked so much older than him. He had khaki pants on and a golf shirt. She was wearing a cotton blouse and non-descript slacks He seemed attentive to her needs but she was not conversing with him.
I was carrying my “props” out to the car and he opened the door for me. I asked, “Is that your mother?”
No, it is my wife. I thought she was just going to be in here for a short time but I guess it is permanent now.
He looked like he was about to cry.
She is still the prettiest girl I have ever seen.
After watching the movie AWAY FROM HER, I feel like crying for all of the married couples who have to live apart after so many years of living together and loving each other. Now, I have an understanding of the tragedy of dementia for families. And the heartwrenching decisions that have to be made when a loved one can no longer be cared for at home.
