There is a man living at a nursing home that I cannot get out of my mind. Here is my observation. If anything touches you about this man….let the Spirit guide you in responding in some way. Thank you.
Some people you just can’t get out of your mind…….picturing this man, lying there hour after hour, day after day, week after week, …..in the activity room. Can’t talk. Can’t walk. Can’t move.
….that man on a stretcher. He can’t speak but I’m pretty sure he’s…still in there mentally. Today he held out his hands to dance with me; smiled when I said “I didn’t know you were a dancer!” He’s not old….maybe 64, 65. Good-looking, too, in a nice way. CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW IT MUST BE TO BE HIM???????? Probably, he was a husband, a father, a driver, a worker, a laugher, a sports guy, a family man. He KNOWS where he lives now; must drive him crazy to think…what the heck happened?
I don’t know what to do to help him. The only thing that comes to mind is the power of healing touch or maybe music. What if there was a volunteer who could do a shoulder massage or hand massage, aromatherapy, read to him, or sit with him and play the particular music that he likes? He seems to be lost in the crowd. The other residents can wheel around or be wheeled around. They are much older and mostly women. They can talk and look into each others’ eyes. They can sit and eat their meals by themselves.
He just seems invisible to everyone. Just a man lying on a stretcher in the back of the room…..all alone. But he isn’t……he is a man, with feelings…….just like you and me.
I think his name may be George.
